Learn After Effect takes time. Create motion graphics from After Effect also takes time. If you are a motion graphics creator, how to adjust and control your working time while creating stunning visual works starts to affect your productivity. This is Rita who likes to create animations in the creative department from FiNC. The time when I create some motion graphics with the limited deadline, speed becomes the essential factor to my productivity. During those time working on some urgent projects, hotkeys and tips become quite useful tools to my productivity. Therefore, this time I would like to share some tips to increase your speed and productivity in After Effect.
Some Useful Shortcuts
A – Anchor Point
P – Position
S – Scale
R – Rotation
T – Opacity
Shift + A/P/S/R/T – Reveals more than 1 properties
U – Reveal or hide all the properties with keyframes
E – Show the effects applied to a layer
J / K – Quickly jump between previous/next keyframes
[ / ] – Set Start Point or End Point of the layer
Ctrl+Shift+D – Split Layers
Command +D – Duplicate Layers
Alt/Option + scroll the mouth wheel – Adjust the viewable length of the timeline
Scale a group of keyframes
Select the group of keyframes, then press Alt/Option + drag the last keyframe. You can expand or scale a group of keyframes while proportionally preserving keyframe distance.
Easy to adjust properties visually
Ctrl+Shift+H – This is quite useful while adjusting the parameter of the properties visually.
Use Layer Styles
Layer styles can be a quick way to add basic stylization to your layers. You can simply add the effect of drop shadows, color overlays, gradients, and glows on the layer. Simply Select the layer > Right click and choose layer styles.
Select the picture from the project column, then Press Alt/Option, click + drag your picture to the canvas.
Editing Your Masks
Press Alt/Option, then click + drag your mask. This is more efficient and will save you from double-clicking so many times.
This is a useful function that you can easily adjust the timing and length of the layer. Simply press Command+Option+T or Right click and choose Time > Time Remapping. You can see the keyframes have already set and ready to be edited.
Align tools to position objects
Align tools can be quite useful to help you organize objects better and faster. Go to Window > Align and you can select the objects to be aligned with the selected objects or canvas.
If you don’t have too much time to create the animation of the text and transition, animation presets is a tool can easily apply the cool animation effect on the layers. Select the layer and go to Animation > Browse Presets. This will launch the software – Adobe Bridge, where you can preview different presets and effects visually.
When After Effect starts to crash, go to Edit > Purge and select if you want to purge everything or something specific.
Keyboard Shortcut map
Okay, if you start to forget the shortcuts I just mentioned above whiling using After Effect. No worries!!! After Effects now includes a Keyboard Shortcut map, a new way to visually reference keyboard shortcuts. To open it up go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
